Coaches Corner - UVA Recap

Coaches Corner - UVA Recap

We opened up the 2013 season with a loss to UVA 13-12 in OT on Saturday.  The team battled the whole game, and we had chances to pull the upset.  In the end UVA made the play to win it.

UVA started strong taking a 3-1 lead, but we turned things around in the second quarter and led 5-4 at half.  It was 8-8 at the end of the third.  UVA had an 11-9 lead late in the fourth, and we came back to tie it with 1:30 to play.  UVA got a quick goal, but Ryan Belka found a rebound on the crease with 10 seconds to play to tie it at 12.  We won the next face-off, and Robert Church hit the goalie's foot as time expired.  UVA won the overtime face-off, and scored in transition.

Nick Saputo and Deven Thomas both had solid days at the face-off x.  Freshman Will Gabrielsen played very well making 15 saves.  The new defense had some moments, but we need to play more consistent as a unit.  Ben McIntosh (3g 1a), Aaron Prosser (2g 2a), and Ryan Belka (1g 3a) led a balanced offense.  We also got big contributions from Andrew Vivian (2g) and Nick Trizano (2g 1a), who have been injured.  Freshmen Frank Fusco (2g 1a) also played very well.

There are a lot of positives to take away from the game, but we can't be happy just to "be there at the end".  We have a huge game on Saturday against Albany.  The Danes are coming off a huge OT win against Syracuse, and we're going to have our hands full.  Please get out to support the team on Saturday at 1pm at Vidas.
